•  Is your event indoors or outdoors?

This may affect things like the need for power/electricity; and weather becomes a factor (for string instruments especially).

• What is the size of your venue? Where will the musicians be positioned in the space?

Is your venue large or small? Mapping out where musicians will be placed in the space ahead of time can help to figure out what size ensemble will work best. This way, you can make sure the ensemble will have enough space to perform (based on amount of musicians), and is in a secure location away from guest foot traffic.

Instruments like the piano, harp, or double bass will need more space.

• Does the venue have a lot of stairs, or a difficult load in?

Please consider the load-in logistics at your venue before booking certain instruments.

For example: If your venue does not have an elevator, rather 2 flights of stairs leading up to the ceremony space, then booking a harp player would not work for this event (as this instrument would need elevator access and easy load-in instructions).

AMPLIFICATION QUESTIONS:

• What is your guest count?

Weddings with a smaller guest count (20-90) should be able to get away with no amplification in most cases. Guest counts roughly 100 or higher (especially in the 200+ range) should consider adding amplification to their package (especially if booking for cocktail hour or reception), so the musicians can be heard among guest chatter/dancing, etc.
